Should You Go on a Spring Break Cruise?

By Kaitlin Hurtado on February 17, 2018

The discussion of how to spend spring break is often a hot topic and one of the more trendier options of today is spring break cruises. After spending weeks cooped up in lecture halls and libraries for your studies, spending a week or so out and about without the worry of any school is much needed. People often think of going for a road trip with friends or renting out a beach house for their spring break vacation, but you can try something that is a little more out of the box, like spring break cruises.

Spring break cruises are just that – cruises that you can take for a portion (like one weekend) or the entire duration of spring break. Spring break cruises are the perfect opportunity to give yourself a break from your usual routine and to experience new scenery and people. If you are still figuring out how to spend your spring break, read on to see if going on a spring break cruise is the best option for you.

Go multiple places in a short amount of time

While most spring breaks are limited to one all-too-short week, spring break cruises allow you to make the most of a short break and can take you to multiple locations depending on the package you choose to buy. When planning out spring break, you and your friends may struggle on coming to agree on a single place to spend your spring break, but a spring break cruise can solve your problem by allowing you to travel to multiple places to keep everyone in your group happy.

Going on a spring break cruise is a trip on itself – it definitely isn’t your typical hotel and every cruise ship offers something different for its guests. Just like different hotels, different spring break cruises will offer you fitness centers, entertainment hubs, bars, pools, and much more just on the ship itself. Traveling to your agreed upon destination is a trip in itself and saves you the trouble (or possible boredom) that you could face with your typical road trip or plane trip.

Depending on the spring break cruise you end up picking, you can go to one final destination or make multiple short trips to different locations over the duration of your spring break cruise. For example, this 4-day cruise takes you from Long Beach to Mexico, stopping in different locations like Catalina along the way.

There’s a spring break cruise plan for everyone

Spring break cruise trips may seem extravagant and by extension, very expensive and out of the typical college student’s budget. However, like many vacations, there are plenty of ways to lower the cost of a spring break cruise trip and plan a spring break trip to perfectly fit your personal budget.

Although spring break is a week long, you don’t have to spend all week on a spring break cruise. Typically, shorter cruises will be cheaper than a week-long cruise so three or four-day cruises may fit your budget much better than a week-long cruise will.

Different spring break cruises will also come with different packages when it comes to entertainment, amenities, and dining. For those that are 21 and over, there is the promise of alcoholic beverage packages that include an unlimited supply for a certain cost per day.

If you are looking to limit the amount of spending for your spring break cruise, cut back on the number of packages you buy. If you know you aren’t a big drinker, skip out on the unlimited alcoholic beverage package, but be aware that if the people you are rooming with buy the unlimited alcoholic beverage package you may be required to do so as well.

If you aren’t much for spending time out on the sea (or even by it), a spring break cruise isn’t going to be your cup of tea, but if you are looking for a fun and different way to spend your spring break it may be a great option.

Being on a spring break cruise grants you the chance to unwind from your typical list of responsibilities between school and work, and gives you much-needed distance from a hectic lifestyle. You won’t have the best signal out on the sea and if you decide to skip out on internet/data packages while on your spring break cruise, you truly get to go through a digital detox and learn how to enjoy a vacation without your typical digital distractions.

If you have a destination in mind, look for a spring break cruise that takes you there and while it may not be for the amount of time you desire, it gives you the opportunity to travel to multiple locations and mingle with other travelers that you otherwise wouldn’t get to meet.
